International Tea Day 2022

Many nations, including Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda and Tanzania, celebrate International Tea Day on December 15. Tea is one of the most sought after fragrances in the global market.

After water, it is the second most popular drink in the world. Tea is an important part of some people’s lives because it adds rhythm. China is currently the world’s largest tea exporter.

Ceylon tea, as it has been known since the 19th century, is the staple tea of choice for many tea makers around the world. Sri Lankans believe that their groundwater has the magical property of not only cultivating excellent tea but also filtering it.

Tea production is one of the main sources of foreign exchange for Sri Lanka, accounting for 2% of GDP and contributing more than US $ 1.3 billion to the Sri Lankan economy by 2021.

In 2005, the first ITD was held in New Delhi, India. On the other hand, in 2015, the Government of India recommended to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to extend International Tea Day worldwide.

May 21 is designated as International Tea Day by the United Nations, as the tea harvest season in most tea-producing countries begins in May.

International Tea Day 2022: Significance

Tea cultivation requires a lot of attention and effort. International Tea Day is celebrated every year to draw the attention of the government and the general public to the challenges facing tea production and how the global tea trade is affecting tea estates, local tea growers and consumers.
