Consumers are troubled by the rice gazette

Consumers have been hard hit by the government’s control price gazette as rice is being sold in the market at prices lower than the control price (maximum retail price) imposed by the government for local rice.

The new price control for local rice in the market was implemented from yesterday (2).

According to the new control price gazette notification, the maximum retail price of a kilo of Nadu rice can be sold at Rs. 220.

Also, a kilo of Samba rice will be sold at a maximum retail price of 230 rupees and a kilo of Kiri Samba rice will be sold at a maximum retail price of 260 rupees.

But consumers say the government’s price controls are ridiculous, as local rice is being sold at wholesale and retail prices at prices lower than those quoted in the government gazette notification.

Commenting on this, rice shop owners say that it appears that the government has issued this gazette notification on controlled prices without looking into the price of rice in the market.

They also question whether steps have been taken to further increase the price of rice under the guise of controlling prices to meet business needs.

The average price of a kilo of Nadu rice in the market was between 190 and 210 rupees, while a kilo of samba rice was sold at 215 to 220 rupees.

A kilo of curry samba sold for around 250 rupees.
