Foreign media reports that President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa left the country in an Antonov 32 aircraft belonging to the Air Force at around 1.45 this morning.
It is further stated in foreign reports that his wife and a security officer have also left the country with the President.
The BBC news service reports that the plane carrying the president and his entourage reached the capital city of Male at around 3:00 am.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had informed the speaker on the 9th that he would resign from the presidency today (13).
