The 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be referred to the Cabinet for approval today (23), Justice Minister Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said.
The Minister said that an amendment would be included which would make it impossible for persons with dual citizenship to hold the office of Member of Parliament.
In addition to the existing Independent Commissions, the National Audit Commission and the Procurement Commission will be amended as Independent Commissions.
Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Justice stated that the 21st Amendment to the Constitution seeks to further enhance the powers of the existing commissions and make them independent and strong.
The Minister said that the new amendment also proposes to appoint the Governor of the Central Bank and place him under the Constitutional Council.
