The Prime Minister says the food may have to be limited to two meals

The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that if there is not enough fertilizer by the end of this year, we will have to face a severe food crisis. The Prime Minister points out that if this happens, the people of this country may have to reduce their daily intake of food to three or two meals a day.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was addressing a conference of the Creative Professionals Association and Rakimu Jayathu Lanka in Colombo.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the Central Bank has been given the opportunity to take independent decisions regarding monetary policy. The Prime Minister also stated that he would not interfere in the decisions of the Central Bank at present.

Although some parties have expressed their appreciation for the decisions taken by the Central Bank, others have expressed their displeasure. The Prime Minister also stated that due to the regulations imposed by the Central Bank that goods should be imported only on transactions made through the Central Bank, some importers have expressed their displeasure.

It was also stated that the Central Bank intends to control inflation and increase foreign reserves in the light of the current situation.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe further stated that a food security program should be launched in Sri Lanka.
