The United Nations Human Rights Council condemns the attack on the struggle
The United Nations Human Rights Council has drawn attention to the unnecessary use of force by the security forces to break up the protest held near the presidential offices in Colombo.
The organization said it condemned attacks on protesters, journalists and lawyers and called on the authorities to stop using unnecessary force.
The organization emphasizes that Sri Lanka’s economic and political crises cannot be resolved by force, and that Sri Lankans can only begin to rebuild confidence with the support of the international community through extensive consultation and dialogue.
The organization has further said that it is hoped that the new president and his government will work to bring real structural and institutional reforms in the country for the betterment of all Sri Lankans.
