In the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Australia won by 2 wickets according to the Duckworth & Lewis method.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 300 runs for the loss of 7 wickets at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Dhanushka Goonetileke and Pathum Nissanka put on 115 for the first wicket to give Sri Lanka a solid start.

Danushka Goonetileke scored 55 runs with the 11th ODI half century.

Pathum Nissanka scored 56 runs for the 3rd ODI half century.

Kusal Mendis was the top scorer in the innings with 86 not out with 8 fours and 6 sixes.

Australia were bowled out for 72 in their first innings for 301 runs.

David Warner went for 0 and skipper Aaron Finch scored 44.

Australia, according to the Duckworth & Lewis method, scored 282 runs in 44 overs after the match was interrupted by rain.

Steven Smith was out for 53 and Glenn Maxwell was unbeaten on 80.

Vanidu Hasaranga took 4 wickets while Dunith Wellala took 2 wickets in his debut ODI.

Australia reached the target in 42 overs with 8 wickets in 3 balls.
