Dallas Cowboys Defeat Steelers 20-17 in Thrilling “Sunday Night Football” Matchup After Weather Delay
The Dallas Cowboys secured a dramatic 20-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in an intense “Sunday Night Football” showdown, overcoming a nearly 90-minute weather delay and a touchdown-less first half. The game, broadcast on NBC, wrapped up after 1 a.m. Eastern time following thunderstorms that postponed the kickoff.
Cowboys Overcome Early Struggles for a Late Comeback Win
Despite dominating the game in yardage, the Cowboys’ offense struggled for much of the night, hindered by turnovers and penalties. Quarterback Dak Prescott had a tough start, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble. Yet, when it mattered most, Prescott delivered.
Dallas entered the fourth quarter trailing 10-6 and only had two possessions in the final 15 minutes. Prescott made the most of both opportunities, throwing two crucial touchdown passes. The first was a 22-yard strike to Rico Dowdle, giving the Cowboys a 13-10 lead. After Pittsburgh regained the lead 17-13 with just under five minutes remaining, Prescott led a 15-play, 70-yard drive that culminated in a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Tolbert on fourth-and-goal. The game-winning drive almost stalled when Dowdle fumbled near the goal line, but Prescott recovered the loose ball, keeping Dallas’ hopes alive.
Pittsburgh’s Final Drive Falls Short
With only 20 seconds left on the clock, Pittsburgh had one final possession, but their efforts never posed a real threat, sealing the Cowboys’ win.

Strong Offensive Performance Marred by Mistakes
The Cowboys’ offense was dominant, outgaining the Steelers 445-226. Prescott passed for an impressive 352 yards, and Dallas finally established a running game, totaling 109 rushing yards against one of the league’s top defenses. Despite the offensive success, the Cowboys nearly squandered the game due to three turnovers and 11 penalties. However, they held on for the win, improving to a 3-2 record, while Pittsburgh also fell to 3-2.
Steelers quarterback Justin Fields completed 15 of 27 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, but Pittsburgh’s offense couldn’t capitalize on Dallas’ mistakes, leading to their defeat.
