A left-wing president for Colombia
Gustavo Petro was sworn in yesterday (7) as the new president of Colombia, a Latin American country. Petro is the first leftist president of Colombia.
President Petro pledged to introduce new political and economic policies, and stressed that he would take tough measures against illegal drug trafficking.
Gustavo Petro, 62, is a former rebel leader in Colombia. Petro was the mayor of Bogotá. He was elected to the presidency in the presidential election held last June.
