A plebiscite in the occupied territories
The Russian military-held Kurzan province, the Donbas republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, and parts of the Russian-held Zaporozhye province launched a referendum today (23) to join Russia.
This referendum will be held for 5 days and it is said that the people of those areas will have the opportunity to express their likes and dislikes regarding the decision to join as a Russian territory.
The results of the preliminary round of the referendum, which ends next Tuesday, are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday.
The Donbas republics of Donetsk and Luhansk seceded from Ukraine in 2014, and last February Russia recognized Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states.
