Aung San Suu Kyi sentenced to another 6 years in prison
Myanmar democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who lost power in a military coup, was sentenced to another six years in prison.
The prison sentence came after she was found guilty of embezzling funds from the Do Kin Kyi Foundation, which Suu Kyi set up to improve the health and education of Myanmar’s people, and several other corruption charges.
In addition to this six-year prison sentence, 77-year-old Suu Kyi has been sentenced to another 11-year prison sentence. It is related to other charges against her. Aung San Suu Kyi has strongly denied all the allegations against her.
Myanmar’s military junta has accused Suu Kyi of violating the Official Secrets Act, corruption charges and election fraud, and foreign media reports indicate that if she is found guilty of all of those charges, her prison term will be around 190 years.
