Australia bans 76 Russian politicians

Australia has imposed sanctions on 76 Russian politicians.

Foreign media reported that Australia had imposed sanctions on 34 officials of Russian-led organizations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.

Australia says these individuals have violated Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by declaring Russian government authority over its territory without the permission of the Ukrainian government.

Accordingly, financial sanctions and travel bans have been imposed on the group, including Russian politicians.

The Australian Foreign Ministry said sanctions had been imposed on Russian politicians who voted in favor of President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to recognize Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine as independent states.

Australia has so far imposed sanctions on 812 people and 47 companies in response to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Accordingly, Australia reiterated its sovereignty, territorial integrity and unwavering support for the people of Ukraine.
