Israel’s new Prime Minister Yar Lapid
Israel has to hold another general election. This is because the coalition government of the current Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett has collapsed.
The Israeli Election Commission has announced that general elections will be held in October. This is the fifth general election in Israel in four years.
Naphtali Bennett formed a coalition government and became prime minister, reaching an agreement with Yar Lapid and his Ves Atid party. Naphtali Bennett agreed to be prime minister first and then to Yar Lapid’s prime minister.
Accordingly, until the general election next October, it will be Yar Lapid, not Naphtali Bennett, who will serve as prime minister. Naphtali Bennett, 50, was Israel’s prime minister, while Yar Lapid, 58, was foreign minister.
Naphtali Bennett and Yar Lapid have said that parliament will be dissolved in the near future and the date of the election will be announced. It is said that Yar Lapid will be the caretaker Prime Minister until the election.
Naphtali Bennett and Yar Lapid formed a coalition government in June 2021. It was the overthrow of Benjamin Netanyahu, who had been in power for 12 years.
Naphtali Bennett and Yar Lapid formed a coalition government of right-wing political parties and Arab political parties. From the beginning there were conflicts of opinion with these parties.
