Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Lumbini, Nepal today (16). This was at the special invitation of the Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The Government of India says that the visit of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to Lumbini will take place on the occasion of Vesak Poya, Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanthi.
This is Modi’s fifth visit to Nepal since taking office for the first time in 2014.
However, no Indian Prime Minister has ever visited Lumbini, the birthplace of Prince Siddhartha. Accordingly, Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Lumbini.
