Pakistan’s PM interdict 17 journalists

Seventeen registered state news journalists have been interdict for failing to provide adequate media coverage to the new prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif.

A total of 17 people, including journalists, newscasters, producers and cameramen of Pakistan’s PTV news channel, have been suspended.

Following the swearing in of the new Prime Minister, Sheikh Sharif visited Lahore on the last day. During the visit, the new Prime Minister visited the Kot Lakpath Prison and the Ramazan Bazaar shopping complex.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Lahore was widely publicized not only by Pakistan’s government news channels but also by private channels, but the media coverage of the PTV news channel was inadequate, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Responding to the allegations, PTV chiefs said their staff did not have enough laptops to cover the prime minister’s satisfactory media coverage.
