The Quad Summit kicked off in Tokyo, Japan.
The countries participating in the ‘Quad’ conference are Japan, USA, India and Australia. The purpose of the Quad Summit is to take collective action on threats to security in the Asian region, not only from China, but also from North Korea.
President Biden stressed at the summit that China was preparing to invade Taiwan and that the United States would support Taiwan if China resorted to military action against Taiwan. Taiwan, now an autonomous island nation, was formerly part of China. China still believes that Taiwan is part of that country.
The ‘Quad’ summit will be held in Tokyo under the chairmanship of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. US President Joe Biden arrives in Tokyo after concluding his visit to South Korea.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tokyo on a two-day official visit to Japan with a special delegation.
Anthony Albanese, Australia’s new Prime Minister after winning last weekend’s general election, arrived in Tokyo shortly after taking office to attend the summit.
