Speaker Position goes to Kevin McCarthy
Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy was elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress (Parliament).
It is special that Kevin McCarthy became the Speaker after 15 rounds of voting. It is also said that this is the first time in American history that a speaker could not be elected in the first round of voting.
However, in the last poll yesterday (6), Kevin McCarthy got 216 votes, while the rival Democratic candidate Hakeem Jeffries got 212 votes.
After the new speaker is elected, the legislators for 2023-2024 will be elected.
