The country cannot be allowed to go bankrupt – Shehbaz Sharif
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the rise in fuel prices was due to the reckless policies of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government, which had to increase fuel prices to prevent the country from going bankrupt.
The Prime Minister further explained that the increase in fuel prices was in line with the instructions given by the International Monetary Fund to help the country recover from its deteriorating economy.
Pakistan, a nuclear power, is currently facing a severe economic crisis. The Russian-Ukrainian war is said to be one of the reasons.
Pakistan has also sought the help of the International Monetary Fund to end the crisis. Accordingly, Shehbaz’s government has formulated an economic program in accordance with the terms and recommendations of the International Monetary Fund.
The Pakistani government hopes to restart the $ 6 billion aid package signed with the International Monetary Fund in 2019.
