The crown diamond is demanded back
A patriotic organization has told the British royal family to return a diamond attached to the queen’s crown to South Africa after the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
This diamond known as ‘Great Star of Africa’ or ‘Cullinan 1’ was discovered in South Africa in 1905. This is not only the largest diamond found in South Africa, but also the most valuable diamond.
During the colonial period, the colonial rulers donated this diamond to the British royal family. The diamond was attached to the crown accordingly.
As South African patriotic activists point out, after the Queen’s death, they want back not only the ‘Cullinan 1’ diamond, but also other diamonds found in South Africa and later given to the British royal family. Patriotic activists accuse the white rulers of looting the diamonds from South Africa.
