Identified the first Indonesian person infected with ‘monkey fever’

For the first time, a person infected with ‘monkey fever’ is reported from Indonesia. According to Indonesian health authorities, the infected person is a 27-year-old man who came to Indonesia from abroad.

Currently, the World Health Organization has declared a global emergency regarding ‘monkey fever’ (monkey pox). Infected people have been reported from 96 countries.

Among the Asian countries, infected people have started to be reported from Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, according to foreign news services.

The spread of the ‘monkey flu’ virus mainly occurs through close contact. It has been confirmed that ‘monkey fever’ is not a sexually transmitted disease.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the virus is spread through sharing bedding, clothing and prolonged face-to-face contact. Most of the infected are male homosexuals.
