Two American warships provoke China
Foreign media reports that the passage of two warships of the US Navy through the Taiwan Strait has caused strong opposition in China.
The United States has said that its warships sailed through the Taiwan Strait in protest of China conducting military exercises in a way that would endanger Taiwan.
China conducted a military exercise in a way that endangers Taiwan, using 8 Chinese warships and 23 fighter jets.
Taiwan is an island near China. Taiwan has a separate administration, but China believes that Taiwan is part of it under the concept of ‘One China’.
The reason for the escalation of the crisis between Taiwan and China is the visit of the American speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan earlier this month.
Following Pelosi’s visit, American government delegations visited Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, from time to time. This angered China and China even imposed trade sanctions on Taiwan.
